I could not have asked for a more perfect start to this year's wedding season. Olga and Karl are one of the sweetest and kindest couples I've ever had the pleasure of photographing, and their families were so fun to work with that I just might have to sneak one or two of them into all of my weddings this summer. Here are just a few of my favorite images of the bride and groom. Not only did they brave The Fog (it was something right out of a Stephen King story) at Fort Williams, they also kept their humor when the place was over run by prom-going teens.

Cleaning Off the Cob Webs

Wedding season officially kicks off for me on Saturday, May 16. I am excited to get back to it! It's been a long winter, and my brain is craving some activity. I miss the people, the dresses, the hair and make-up, the dancing, the CAKE, and all the love.

During the slow season my gear usually sits in a corner, gathering dust. You would think with a 1 year old, I'd always have a camera at the ready to capture all his big milestones. But to be honest, after a long wedding season I'm often loathe to bust out the big guns. I tend to rely on the easy point and shoot for family stuff.

The worst thing about the slow season is losing touch with your gear. When you use something every weekend for 8 hours straight, it becomes an extension of yourself. Thankfully it's like riding a bike and it all comes back to you fairly quickly. But just in case it doesn't, I always like to warm up with some personal work. With only my little 50mm 1.8 lens, I stalked Henry at the playground, at the table, where ever he managed to find himself in some good light.

If it's been a while since you've seen him, Henry's now a full-on toddler. He's talking up a storm and getting into trouble at every turn. If you run into us somewhere, Henry will point out all of the trucks, planes, and birds and will blow kisses at you (often after you're gone). And yes, I know he has long hair. I'm not ready for his first hair cut yet.

Look Who's Talking

Two and a half years ago, wedding clients Kristina and Jim bought a Baby Steps gift certificate for their expectant friends, Tanya and Matt. That first year of Sydney photos was so much fun, and I couldn't have asked for a more adorable -- and easy -- model. She willingly obliged when we propped her in various positions as a one month old, braved the harsh winter winds gusting off the ocean as a six month old, and happily explored the beach (and tasted some, too) as a one year old. It was a real treat to capture those huge first year changes, and I was sad to see the sessions come to an end.

Not too long ago, Tanya contacted me and asked if I would extend the Baby Steps package to Sydney's second year. I was delighted to do it and looked forward to seeing what changes had taken place in the year since I'd last photographed her. When I saw Sydney I could barely believe my eyes. She had doubled in size, her hair had gotten darker, and she was talking and walking (and running and dancing). It amazes me how much children grow and develop in such a short amount of time, and I can't help but marvel at it and wonder what my boy will be like at that age.

When event planner Nicole Garvey contacted me about photographing her new baby girl, I was so excited to see her latest creation. Molly Shea does not disappoint. Though we caught her during the not so perfect "baby acne" stage, Molly proved that even red bumps can't diminish her fabulousness. I haven't finished editing all 400+ images I took that day (someone get me an editor!), but I wanted to share some of my favorites so far.

The 2008 wedding season was remarkable in so many ways. It was my first experience as a working mom. While I missed my little boy when I was away, it was a joy to be back at work after a long -- and exhausting -- winter. Being a part of so many joyous occasions leaves an impression on one's soul, and for that I thank you all. After every wedding I spend hours talking to everyone who will listen about the highlights of the day... ...the ceremony in the apple orchard, the stubborn refusal to submit to mother nature, the quiet beauty and confidence as you marry your true love, the brother's song that left us all in tears, high school sweet hearts driving off in the coolest car, the torrential rains that held off until nightfall (and the field filled with ginormous spiders), finding quiet moments -- and another bride -- in a public garden, seeing an old friend marry her true love, toasts that induce belly aching laughs and rocking out with the baddest disco band around... Thanks to everyone for sharing such special moments with me.

One of my favorite weddings of 2008 was Amanda and Pete's. They were married at The Bufflehead Cove Inn, a hidden gem in Kennebunkport. The guests and I were all blown away by the charm and simple beauty of the place. When the kind inn keeper, Harriet, called about using some of the images on their website I was more than happy to oblige. I hope Bufflehead Cove Inn will be hosting more wedding in the near future. Maybe I'll be the lucky enough to photograph one of them...

The Fairmont Hotel

After being away from DC for over a year, I was super excited to get back to my old home town. It was a homecoming for me as well as Jenn and Tom. Jenn and Tom recently relocated from the DC area to Tom's home state of Massachusetts. I met Jenn when she was working at one of the photo labs I used back in the film days. It wasn't long before she started assisting me on jobs. Always patient and on her toes, she was an asset to my business. Eventually Jenn took over for me when I left my position with another photographer. Fast forward to her engagement to her long time love, Tom, and a plea to fly down to DC to photograph their wedding.

Leaving the baby for a weekend was harder than I thought it would be, but I was looking forward to luxuriating at the fabulous Fairmont Hotel in DC's West End. Lucky for me they had recently renovated their guest rooms so it was even nicer than I remembered. It really doesn't get much better than October in DC. It's neither too warm or too cool, the sky is bright and clear, and the flowers are still blooming.

Photographing a friend's wedding is always a mixed bag of nerves, excitement, and unbelievable pressure. Lucky for me, Jenn and Tom are a super laid back couple. I loved every minute of this day and feel grateful that Jenn trusted me to photograph it. Thanks for having me! Congratulations to Jenn and Tom. I wish them all the best in the years to come.

Lisa and Eric live in California, and the first time I met them face to face was a week before their wedding. We got along famously, and the conversation made its way from the wedding day plans to how they met. They smiled at each other and then said, already knowing what my reaction was going to be, "the Tampax factory." It's going to be hard to top that story! Later that week we all made our way up the coast to Bar Harbor. I had never been and was excited to see what everyone has been raving about since I moved here. Bar Harbor did not disappoint, even if the weather conspired to spoil the entire weekend. Thankfully the day of the wedding the rain let up and we were able to enjoy the grounds and views at the beautiful Asticou Inn. I had a really wonderful time photographing the two of them and their friends and family. Congratulations, Lisa and Eric!

These two were a dream to photograph, and they had an insanely fun reception with the Bob Charest Band keeping everyone on the dance floor all night. They live in NYC so I have no doubt they will find a special way to celebrate their first anniversary.

The Salt Water Farm

Caroline and Josh's wedding day started off grey, wet, and foggy and the forecast called for more of the same so no one had any ideas about blue skies and sunsets. My entire drive up there it wasn't raining, but the moment I jumped out of my car to get a shot of one of their directional signs, a light rain started to fall. I pulled up to the farm to find their families hard at work putting the finishing touches on the barn and tent. This wedding was truly a family affair with everyone pitching in to make it all come together. They did an amazing job (see just a few of my favorite details below) and completely transformed the barn. I could have spent hours just documenting all the wonderful details they put in there.

There was much hand wringing by everyone about where to have the ceremony. Josh and Caroline had faith it would all work out even when the rest of us didn't -- they stuck with the plan (Plan A) and set up for their outside ceremony. The weather would clear up just at the right moment to allow for their seaside ceremony and portraits.

I had such an incredible time working with Caroline and Josh and their wonderful families. Their wedding will be one that is hard to top!

There are so many photos I wanted to post here, but I had to narrow it down to just some of my favorites. I'll make a slideshow of all of my favorites and post the link here later today. The proof gallery should be online shortly so please sign up for it if you haven't already.

Incredibly, all of the flowers were from Caroline's mother's gardens.

This image of Caroline reminds me of Girl with Pearl Earring.

Josh's mom embroidered the ring pillow.

Josh's dad pointed out these ginormous spiders that flanked the paths through the field and down to the ocean. I'm pretty sure these are the biggest and freakiest spiders I've ever seen. I had to keep reminding myself not to stray from the paths as I photographed the ceremony and portraits. Of course, no one warned me about getting to my car at the end of the night. The way to the parking was not lit, and it was pitch black. You couldn't see a thing, not even your feet. That was scary enough, but then I remembered the spiders. I held my breath and hoped I stayed on a mowed, spider-free path. My anxiety on the hair-raising drive home was heightened by the fear that I had walked through one of these webs and had a little friend along for the ride. The next day I vacuumed my car to make sure there wasn't anything lurking in it.

Sorry for the Belated Happy Anniversaries!

I honestly don't know what happened to August. One day it was August 1st and then the next it was Sept. 1st. Now it's two weeks later, and I still have yet to give a shout out to all of last year's weddings. Sorry! These last weeks of summer have flown by. It's been an amazing year for me, and I wish the same for all of my wedding couples (really, you are all so much more like friends than "clients"). If you get a minute, drop me a line to let me know what's going on and how married life has been.

Happy anniversary to Meredith and Ryan who had a gorgeous wedding day last August 11th in Boothbay Harbor at the Lawnmere. They were so sweet to give me one of their wedding favors -- a small jar of honey. Everyone who has tried it has raved about how it's the most delicious honey they've ever had. Thanks again!

Rachel and Kevin celebrated their first anniversary August 18th. I got a chance to catch up with these two at Loni and Jess's wedding. It was great to see them and hear about how they have been enjoying their first year of marriage.

Leslie and Jamie were married August 25, 2008 at the Woodlands in Falmouth. I spoke with Leslie's mother not too long ago, and it sounded like everyone was doing well. Happy anniversary!

David and Jenna! I love these two. They were married at the Alamoosook Lakeside Inn in Orland September 1st of last year. I was thinking about their wedding this weekend as I drove by the turn to Orland on my way to Bar Harbor. Hope they had a wonderful 1st anniversary.

Rachel and Alan were such a pleasure to work with, and it showed in the fabulous pictures we got. They were married September 2nd, 2008 on the Eastern Prom overlooking Casco Bay. It was a glorious afternoon. They partied well into the night at the Eastland Park Hotel. Hope you had a great night out celebrating your anniversary in DC.

This one is not belated, it's just in time. Happy anniversary to Margie and John. They were married on this date last year at Margie's mother's historic house in Bath. They tented the yard and filled it with candles and glowing paper lanterns, and the guests partied well into the night.

And last but not least, happy anniversary to my husband. Yesterday we celebrated our 6th anniversary in Bar Harbor with baby Henry.

Wedding Week

I start every morning with the WashingtonPost.com, and this morning is no different only I can barely hold my head up. Today I'm recovering from a wonderful wedding up in Tenant's Harbor and the very harrowing drive home in the Hurricane Hannah rains. It was awful -- the drive, not the wedding, the wedding was amazing (more on that later). I think I left fingernail marks in the steering wheel from gripping it so tightly, and I'm pretty sure I held my breath most of the way home! But we had no rain for the outdoor wedding so I suppose the day worked out pretty well for everyone.

Anyway, I digress. For those of you who are planning a wedding, The Washington Post's Wedding Week is going on now. You will find a lot of information there that's not DC specific (and some that is) and some fun stories about wedding planning. I just read the piece about the "anti-wedding" and couldn't help but think they needed a professional photographer there to capture the moment!

I was so excited to photograph this wedding. Rebecca and Andy are so laid back and chill that I knew it would be a super afternoon, and we were looking at a perfect New England summer day. When I arrived at the Harbor Crest Inn Andy and Rebecca were so calm you wouldn't know it was their wedding day were it not for the white dress hanging on the closet door and the gorgeous bouquets on the bed. Their focus was on getting married, not worrying about any of the day's details. I had a truly wonderful day with Rebecca and Andy and their families. Congratulations to the happy couple! Thank you for letting me be a part of your day.

This summer has been so rainy that I feel incredibly fortunate to have not had any of my weddings get completely rained out (I'm knocking wood here). All day at Kate and Scott's wedding it looked like we were going to get rained on, but it wasn't until I got in my car to drive home at the end of the night that the first drops started to fall. Thank goodness for that because the ceremony overlooking Rockport Harbor, Kate's hometown, would not have been the same any where else. Kate was perhaps the most laid back bride ever. When I arrived to shoot the preparations, Kate's house was filled with her girlfriends. The conversations were wild -- girl talk always is -- and Kate was getting the full make up treatment from her dear friend who had just returned from Iraq. From that point on I knew the day would be filled with laughter and love. What I didn't know was that it would end with afros and polyester.

I Love My Job

Not one to toot my own horn, I wanted to share with you the two notes I received from Amanda's mother after the wedding. I find the notes I receive from clients often say better what I do and how I work than I ever could. There are times when this job is super stressful and beyond demanding, but when I hear such kind words and praise from my clients I know it's all been worth it!

Hi Amy,

Just had to write you a note and thank you for your professionalism and expertise on Amanda's wedding day. I haven't seen the pictures yet but just by observing your style I know they are going to be terrific. You were unobtrusive but aggressive when necessary. Your style seems laid back until a little force was necessary to get the job done. I liked that. No pushover.

I loved the way you worked with people and admired your ability to weave in and out and note details that we surely have missed along the way. You were so sweet when you were saying goodbye and being sensitive to not interrupting Amanda's activities at the time. We both loved you and can't wait to see the pictures so that we can full out blast your name from the rooftops!!!

The pictures are incredible. The lighting is remarkable. So many of the shots show a sort of dappling sunlight effect that is so real and so exactly what it was actually like at that moment. I am thrilled with the pictures. It was such a wonderful day for us and now you have frozen those magic moments in time for us permanently. I knew the sunlight was spectacular that day but I had no idea you would be able to capture it so well. The setting was perfect and you have enabled us to relive the wonder again and again.

Nestled along the river not far very from the center of town is the Bufflehead Cove Inn. If you blink as you drive past the small sign you will miss the turn onto the small dirt road that takes you there. At the very end of the road is one of the sweetest spots I've had the pleasure of photographing. How Amanda and Pete found it was on everyone's minds as we all were charmed by the place. The wedding day was clear and bright -- a welcome change from the heavy rains that had blanketed New England for days. I think the highlight of the entire day for me was the actual wedding ceremony. Some ceremonies are short and sweet while others are religious and quite quiet, and almost all still make me get a bit choked up by the end. Somehow Amanda and Pete managed to make just about everyone sniffle back a few tears by the time they were officially Mr. and Mrs. It was extremely hard for me to come up with just a few images to share here so please click on the link below to see the slideshow. Referrals from former clients always lead to the best new clients. That certainly has been the case with Loni and Jess. After an amazing engagement session last summer I knew these two -- especially Loni -- would photograph beautifully. The wedding was at gorgeous Pineland Farms. I need to find out from Loni the name of the officiant for all you soon to be brides because this woman was great! I had a really hard time picking just a couple of images to post here. Allison and Dan's wedding was a whirlwind. Hired for only 4 hours, I was photographing every minute I was there. Alli and Dan are from Boothbay Harbor, and their wedding had a real local feel to it. The marriage ceremony was in Barrett's Park, the prettiest setting that I'm sure would be over run by tourists if they only knew about it. Their transportation were two of the sweetest rides I'd ever seen. The guests made their way over to Fisherman's Wharf for an early dinner. Friends who were not invited sailed past the restaurant for an impromptu congratulations to the bride and groom. And that's when my time with them ended. I wonder how crazy the evening's party cruise got...

Honk If You Love Animals

The Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland is taking part in an exciting initiative to bring a new specialty license plate to Maine. The fee for the plate goes to the state Animal Welfare Program. The plate costs $25 annually, and they need to pre-sell 2000 before they can present the bill to the legislature. More information here.

If you haven't been to the ARL's website in a while, check out some of the new **lower** adoption fees for cats and dogs. They are also sponsoring some fun events like Bark in the Park August 3rd at Hadlock Field.

Nicole and Andrew had a beautiful wedding -- in spite of the relenting misting rain. We were all holding out hope that the weather would lift and they could have their outdoor ceremony as planned. But Nicole's father made the difficult call to move it indoors, and I won't lie and say I wasn't happy to get out of the cold and wet weather. Still, I am so thrilled that we got to take some photos out at the Spring Point Lighthouse. The ceremony and party that followed was so personal and intimate that I don't think anyone minded that it wasn't outdoors.

It doesn't look that bad out, right?
That's why we all thought it might still be an option to do the ceremony outside.

Caroline and Josh are getting married in September and wanted to have their engagement session during their recent trip to Maine. We set it up for late in the day -- 6:30 PM -- and crossed our fingers the weather would cooperate. We headed over to one of my favorite local spots, Kettle Cove, and started shooting. From the first frame I knew it was going to be an amazing session. Caroline and Josh are naturals in front of the camera. I cannot wait to shoot their wedding!

Skowhegan Wedding

Laura and Rusty's wedding was one of the most relaxing events I've ever photographed. It was a treat to spend the afternoon with them. They tented their backyard and invited family and friends to join them for their afternoon wedding ceremony and a lobster feast. After the ceremony, the kids wasted no time getting out of their dressy clothes and jumping in the pool. I stayed long enough to score a slice of the decadent chocolate wedding cake before making the long drive home.

Saturday was awesome. It was a little hard to leave my baby, but getting back to wedding work was really exciting. Yesterday I received the following email from Saturday's bride. I just love her sentiments about her wedding day, and I hope all my clients feel like this the day after their wedding. I'll be posting some images from the wedding here soon (hopefully before the bride and groom leave for their honeymoon).

Dear Amy,

I wanted to thank you for all your work yesterday. So many people said to me afterwards that they were impressed by the way you approach your work, how you seemed to be both everywhere and not obviously anywhere at the same time, and I think many people who are not normally comfortable having their pictures taken felt less funny about it because of your attitude and sense of humor.

We are so looking forward to seeing the pictures when we return from Greece-we could not have had a better day, I think, and as I told our friend Bart the caterer, if I had made a movie of how I wanted it to be, it would have been very much the same as it was. We are very lucky people!

It was good to work with you again-let's hope we have some more nice days!

All Grown Up

I first met Sydney when she was only 8 weeks old. She was a teeny weeny baby with big blue eyes. Her mother seemed completely together -- an inspiration for me at a couple of months pregnant -- and Sydney was an easy and willing subject. By our second session, winter had arrived. Sydney remained completely content to be photographed while the rest of us froze for some sea side pictures at Kettle Cove. On the occasion of her first birthday we met again at the beach. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw how big she had gotten. Now a full-on toddler, I was worried we'd be chasing her all over the beach trying to get a good shot. Once again she proved to be a joy to photograph. Thank you, Kristina and Jim, for connecting me with your friends. It has been a real pleasure getting to know them and watching Sydney grow.

Engagement Session

When Cristy hired me for an engagement portrait session, I thought the greatest challenge was going to be designing the large, 11x14 sign in book she wanted. Then she added a wrinkle -- they would be dressed up for the shoot. Normally my couples dress down for their esessions. We go to the beach, climb on some rocks, get our feet wet. All I could think of in the days leading up to the shoot was what I was going to do with a couple in a cocktail dress and suit. After about two minutes with them I knew I had worried for nothing. I couldn't have asked for two more photogenic and easy going subjects. And check out Cristy's gorgeous shoes. Cobblestones and rocks didn't slow her down one bit. I had so much fun with Cristy and Justin that I'm really sad they are getting married in Miami and already have a photographer down there. Before I had Henry, I used to walk dogs at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland. It was a great experience and one I'm looking forward to resuming once Henry is older (no, he can't do that with me). I am still plugged into their volunteer system and just received an email about some of their upcoming events.

June 1st they are having a Kitten Shower (second item) at the ARL. They are trying to gear up for the seasonal influx of kitties by raising money and collecting goods. May 27th through June 30th they are waiving adoption fees on all special needs cats and cats over the age of ten. Cats ages 1-9 will have a special adoption fee of $25. Apparently they have a lot of cats at the shelter, so if you have been thinking of adding a new feline to the family...

They are also in need of any spare blankets or towels that you may have. Now you have an excuse to buy plush new towels -- the animals need your old ones!

Loving Popham Beach

Laura and Rusty had one of their first dates at Popham Beach so it seemed fitting that we take their engagement photos there. I thought we would have the place to ourselves and got a huge surprise when I pulled into the parking lot to find it full of cars (with Bates College stickers on them). Apparently Bates College was having a huge beach party that day. The beach was wall to wall barely dressed college students (meanwhile I was wearing jeans, a sweater, and a jacket). The winter was not kind to Popham Beach and the tide was all the way in so there wasn't a lot of beach, but we managed to find a quiet corner to take pictures. If you haven't been to Popham Beach, it's worth the trip because it's beautiful.

Last summer Steph and Brian decided to get married. Only they didn't tell anyone. Instead they invited their families to a "family reunion lobster bake" at a winery in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. They surprised everyone with a romantic wedding ceremony set in the fields that over look the water. The day for me started at a charming inn in Newport and ended with the unveiling of the night's feast. It was an unforgettable afternoon. Check out the slideshow to see for yourself.

Sign In Book Design

Here's a link to the layout for the sign in book. It starts with a shot of the front and back cover, and all of the pages are double page spreads except the first and last page. Guests can sign in the white areas as well as on top of the faded images. You can also customize your book to include suggestions for your guests like "Give us advice for a happy marriage." The sign in books come in different sizes. This one is a 7x7 with 28 sides and costs $199. Oh, and your version won't have my name emblazoned on the front like this sample (it's there on this one because it's a sample for me). Henry and the new camera

I've been having way too much fun with my new point and shoot camera. It's small and easy to use, and it has all sorts of cool features. It's also fast to turn on and doesn't have a long lag time between shots which makes taking pictures of Henry a snap. If you are in the market for a new camera, I highly recommend the Canon SD1100 IS. It comes in lots of different colors, too.

Blogging for Earth Day

In honor of Earth Day I'm brainstorming a list of things we can all do to lessen our carbon footprint. Please feel free to add your suggestions to the comments. I'll update the list as things come up!

Recycle. This is obvious, but every time I go to some one's house I see something in their garbage that could be recycled. Usually it's junk mail, but sometimes it's a toilet paper roll or a milk container or even a cereal box. Most recycling programs accepts all kinds of plastics, papers (including wrapping paper), glass, and metal. You might be surprised to find out that some of the things you've been putting in the trash can actually be recycled.
Buy organic.
Shop for locally produced foods and goods.
Bring reusable shopping bags with you where ever you shop. Whole Foods and Hannafords (our local supermarket) sells them for only $0.99.
Don't leave phone and other chargers plugged in when not in use. Power down your computer at the end of the day.
Use CFL light bulbs.
If you have a desktop monitor, try using Blackle instead of Google. It's Google only with a black screen -- did you know that black web pages use less energy? Apparently this doesn't apply to laptop users.
Don't leave your car idling. Restarting it uses less gas than leaving it running.
Purchase green household cleaning products.

Bar Harbor

Later this summer I'm photographing a wedding in Northeast Harbor at the Asticou Inn. That weekend also happens to be my wedding anniversary (6 years) so the husband and I have decided to make a long weekend out of it. Because we are bringing the bambino we are going to need some space. Check out the awesome Carriage House we booked at the Harbour Cottage Inn in Southeast Harbor. It's pricey, but I have no doubt having the additional space and kitchen area will be handy with baby in tow.

Signs of Spring

Finally there are some signs that this long, cold winter will actually come to an end. It has at times seemed interminable. Don't get me wrong, it remains cold out and there are still threats of snow in the forecast. But I have seen these definitive signs of spring:

1. The tips of tulip buds are poking out of the earth. Please don't get eaten by deer or other creatures this year!
2. The snow banks around my house are melting, and I can actually see grass and shrubs.
3. The air is full of bird songs and there are robins hopping all over the newly exposed yard.
4. The sump pump is running. It's not running non-stop like it will next month, but it has gone off a couple of times.
5. Album orders are coming in. Everyone is emerging from their dens, ready to finish their wedding orders before their first anniversaries.
6. LL Bean is marketing flip flops.
7. I receive mail almost daily from my accountant.
8. March Madness (sadly AU lost in the first round).
9. Easter Candy.
10. The ice is almost completely gone from the Scarborough Marsh (Black Point RD) and there are mallards swimming in it.
11. BASEBALL.

The men's basketball team at my alma mater, American University, is going to the NCAA tournament! First time ever. When I went there they had to give away the tickets. But that was a looooong time ago. I've never had the opportunity to cheer for my school at one of these sporting events. This is going to be fun. Who knows, maybe they'll be this year's Cinderella team. And yes, I am aware of how lame it is that we are the American Eagles.

It was rainy and I was dealing with major morning sickness, but it was still one of my favorite weddings of the summer. Not only is the location gorgeous, the staff is amazing.

New Recipe for the Ultimate Chocolate Chip Cookie

You may remember a post I made last year about chocolate chip cookies. Those were great cookies, but after watching Throwdown with Bobby Flay the other day I was inspired to make something better. Of course, the bakery cookie recipe was not listed on the episode page so I googled it. Whatever did we do before Google???? Below is what I found on someone's cooking blog. There was extensive debate and testing of the recipe before I found it so all of the kinks were already worked out for me. This afternoon I baked a batch, and they are seriously good cookies. My husband announced that I am not allowed to bake any other kind of chocolate chip cookie ever again.

8 ounces (2 sticks) unsalted butter, room temp.

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup brown sugar

2 eggs

3 1/2 cups AP flour

3/4 teaspoon Kosher salt

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

12 ounces (2 cups) good quality semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup walnuts/pecans

Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In bowl of electric mixer fitted with paddle, cream together butter and sugars until well-blended and fluffy. Add eggs and beat until well-incorporated, then add flour, salt, and baking soda, and mix until just combined. Gently fold in chocolate chips and nuts.

Transfer dough to clean work surface and divide into 12 equal portions. Place each on sheet pan lined with parchment paper and bake in oven 20 minutes, or until very lightly browned. Let cool on rack and store in airtight container.

Notes: For Smaller cookies (4 oz. or 1/4 cup) 15-17 minutes @ 350.

It's hard to believe that Henry is almost two months old. He has grown so much from the 7 pound baby we brought home from the hospital. Henry has to be 12 pounds by now, and he has some amazing new skills, the most remarkable of which is his smile.

I love bridal fashion. Just ask me how many dresses I tried on for my wedding! Badgley Mischka showed dresses on Martha's wedding show. In a word -- stunning. They pointed out something so obvious but worth repeating: that the back of your dress is as important as the front because that's what people will be seeing throughout the ceremony. The closest store that carries Badgley Mischka is L'elite in Boston.

One of my favorite foods is cake. I love cake. Talk about finding a job that ends with the best perk -- a slice of wedding cake! And of course, Martha Stewart is showcasing some beautiful cakes. I personally love photographing pretty cakes but if it doesn't taste good, really what's the point? I have a great idea. The next couple who signs a contract with me will receive a copy of Martha Stewart's Wedding Cakes book. But you must promise me a piece of your wedding cake!

My friend, colleague, and former assistant, Jenn Blume, got engaged last night to her sweetheart, Tom! They have been together for almost ten years and are about to embark on a very exciting year together. I couldn't be happier for them and wish them all the best as they start this phase of their lives. Oh, and check out her beautiful ring...

PS I happen to know a good wedding photographer when they are ready to get married!

O Henry

I've survived my first week alone with baby Henry. He has certainly tried to break my heart with many hours of crying and screaming. But he always makes up for it with the sweetest snuggles and the softest kisses. I am completely amazed by how much he has grown in his first two weeks at home. The lack of sleep is starting to take its toll. I long for the day when he will sleep through the night in his crib!

While Henry is in this very fussy stage I'm finding it hard to get much work done. I am fielding inquiries and setting up meetings for weekends. I've also been placing album orders and getting proof products out as soon as they come in. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you need anything. I'm checking emails and getting voice mails regularly.
